EKYAN expands to Kisumu, Busia and Samburu

Kuza One (Kuza Biashara) has officially launched the latest phase of the Engaging Kenyan Youth in Agriculture and Nutrition (EKYAN) programme in Kisumu County, bringing together agripreneurs and community-facing professionals from all eight sub-counties.

Since 2024, EKYAN has incubated 512 agripreneurs, reached over 100,000 farmers, engaged over 11,000 students across 256 public schools and established 64 school-based Centres of Excellence across four counties.

This new phase will deepen and scale that work across Kisumu, Busia and Samburu, strengthening the livelihoods of young agripreneurs and expanding climate-smart, nutrition-sensitive and market-focused support to additional farming households.

Families make daily decisions about what to grow, what to eat and how to earn an income. Yet many still lack regular access to practical knowledge, suitable inputs, reliable services and market opportunities.

EKYAN aims to close this last-mile gap by equipping agripreneurs as trusted community-facing professionals who mobilise, train and support households, connect them to relevant products, services and markets, provide ongoing follow-up, and facilitate referrals to agricultural, nutrition and other technical experts.

In Kisumu, the programme will build on 24 existing Centres of Excellence and their satellite-school network, covering 96 public schools. These regenerative agriculture demonstration units connect locally relevant digital learning with practical experience for young people, farmers and surrounding communities.

Implemented by Kuza Biashara with support from UNICEF Kenya and Generation Unlimited, EKYAN places households at the centre, turning knowledge into action, household needs into livelihood opportunities, and trusted community relationships into stronger local food systems.
