EKYAN Stories 1: Risper asked for a garden at home

Risper is sixteen, a Form 3 student at St Bridget's Akoret Senior School for the Deaf in Busia County. Through EKYAN, delivered by Kuza with UNICEF Kenya and Generation Unlimited, her school became a climate-resilience learning hub with a demonstration plot where students learn regenerative agriculture, food production and nutrition by doing.

Risper prepared raised beds, planted, weeded and harvested. Then she walked up to agripreneur Amos Aluku after a training session and signalled a question: could he help her set up a garden at home?

The unused space behind her family's house now feeds them every day with organic vegetables and steady nutrition. Her mother Esther still sounds amazed that such a small space could give them vegetables daily.
