Nutrition does not sit in one department

In Kisumu, Kuza joined the County Multisectoral Nutrition quarterly meeting, which brought county and national departments, development partners, private sector actors and academia around one question: how do we work better together to improve nutrition outcomes?

The discussion reinforced what we see on the ground every day. Nutrition lives at the intersection of agriculture, water, health, education, social protection and local markets.

Themes that stood out

  • The Department of Agriculture re-engaging agripreneurs as a backbone for farmer registration, land data capture and sensitisation on the county farm input e-voucher system.
  • Plans to identify two agro-dealers per ward to strengthen last-mile access to quality inputs and support production diversification.
  • Water department scorecard insights on how school water infrastructure shapes learning, nutrition and agricultural productivity.
  • Kuza shared experience from delivering EKYAN with UNICEF, combining youth agripreneur engagement, school-based interventions, nutrition training for caterers with the County Health Department, and nutrition-sensitive production practices.
